ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -With about three minutes remaining against St. Louis, the Ducks' Brendan Morrison was frustrated that he had an open shot but no puck.
Shortly afterward, he had both and scored the go-ahead goal during a scramble in front of the net with 2:37 remaining to help Anaheim defeat the Blues 4-2 on Wednesday night.
"About 20 seconds before I scored, I had a wide-open net and I went to shoot and Teemu (teammate Teemu Selanne) just knocked it off my stick," Morrison said. "I was like, 'Ah, man, that's the way things are going.'
"But we kept the puck alive. Then it was basically a scramble, and I was able to get my stick on it."
Chris Kunitz added an empty-net goal, his second score of the night, with four seconds on the clock.
Anaheim pulled out the win after Brad Boyes drew the Blues even at 2-2 on his power-play goal with 7:06 remaining.
"We seemed to step up the level of our intensity," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said. "That is important when you're in situations like that, to have that other gear to go to. We found a way to push across the line."
Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 26 saves for Anaheim. A longtime St. Louis nemesis, Giguere ran his record to 9-1-2 against the Blues.
St. Louis goalie Manny Legace left after being kneed in the head late in the first period, and Chris Mason replaced him. Legace faced 11 shots and allowed one goal, and Mason gave up two goals on 24 shots.
"We fought them hard and we came on in the third period and tied them up," Mason said. "They put a lot of pressure on us and it ended up in our net. Good teams win games like that."
Like Giguere against the Blues, Legace had an outstanding record against Anaheim. He was 11-2-1, with one tie in 18 career games.
Kunitz scored on a power play at 13:47 of the second period to put the Ducks up 2-1. Anaheim's George Parros and St. Louis' Brandon Crombeen had first-period goals.
Boyes' third-period slap shot sailed past a screened Giguere. The goal was Boyes' 15th of the season and his eighth point in four games.
On Kunitz's first goal, Selanne passed to Ryan Getzlaf behind the goal line on the left side, Getzlaf slid the puck across the crease, and Kunitz beat Mason on the glove side. Selanne later assisted on Morrison's goal.
After Crombeen opened the scoring 12:39 in, the Ducks quickly answered, with Parros scoring on a play that knocked Legace out of the game.
Bobby Ryan shot from the right circle and Parros - the Anaheim enforcer who's suddenly racking up points - knocked in the rebound at 13:25 for his third goal of the season. After the puck went in, Legace, sprawled on the ice, raised up just as Ryan skated past, and Ryan's knee struck him in the head. The goalie lay on the ice for several moments, then was wobbly when helped off.
The Blues got their first goal on just their second shot, although it took a while - the Ducks had outshot them 9-1 until then.
Crombeen picked up a loose puck near the Anaheim blue line, had a clear run down the right side and snapped a shot past Giguere.
Notes: Parros had never scored more than two goals in a season, and his seven points this season are a career high. ... Mason had made three consecutive starts before Legace replaced him and won two straight. ... Crombeen had his first career hat trick in Monday's 6-3 victory over Nashville. ... The Blues are missing Paul Kariya (hip) Andy McDonald (fractured leg), and T.J. Oshie (ankle sprain). ... The Ducks have 10 wins and a tie in their past 11 home games against the Blues, and are 4-0-2 in their last six meetings overall.
