EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Long out of playoff contention, the St. Louis Blues are trying to take some teams with them.

Curtis Sanford made 35 saves, and Scott Young scored two goals in the Blues' 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. Keith Tkachuk and Jay McClement also scored for St. Louis, 6-1-1 in its last eight games and 17-31-9 overall.

"I want to make it miserable for everybody else and hopefully knock them out of the playoffs," Tkachuk said. "It's sour grapes, but that's the way you have to approach it."

Sanford agreed.

"We can play the spoiler," Sanford said. "We're going to play a pivotal role in how other teams fare in the conference."

Chris Pronger and Marc-Andre Bergeron scored for Edmonton, which outshoot the Blues 37-12. The Oilers have lost four straight to drop to eighth in the Eastern Conference.

The Oilers were pressing for the tying goal when Young scored with 1:29 left to put the game out of reach.

Tkachuk opened the scoring at 6:16 of the first period, skating around Pronger on the right wing and beating Jussi Markkanen for his 12th goal in 17 games this season.

Young made it 2-0 just over 4 minutes later. Moments after Edmonton's Ales Hemsky was sent to the penalty box for slashing, Young's shot from the point found its way through a maze of bodies and into the goal.

McClement, a 22-year-old rookie, made it 3-0 with a power-play goal with 2:55 left in the second.

Pronger finally solved Sanford with 1:22 left in the second on a 5-on-3 power play. The former St. Louis star's shot found its way through a crowd to make it 3-1 and give the Oilers a chance heading to the third.

Bergeron made it 3-2 at 3:41 of the third.

Oilers goalie Mike Morrison played the third period, allowing one goal on two shots.

"I'm embarrassed for all of us," Morrison said. "It's tough to swallow."

Notes: Blues defenseman Christian Backman, fresh off helping Sweden earn an Olympic gold medal, didn't play because his equipment didn't arrive from Stockholm. ... Yan Statsny, the son of Hall of Famer Peter Stastny, made his NHL debut for Edmonton.
