ST. LOUIS (AP) - Once again, the St. Louis Blues brought out Pavol Demitra's best.
Demitra matched his career high with four assists, enjoying another big game against his former team in the Los Angeles Kings' 6-3 victory on Tuesday night.
"You always have extra energy when you come in and play against the team you played for," Demitra said. "I was nervous a little bit at the start of the game and especially at the start of the day, but when the game began I just felt great."
Defenseman Joe Corvo had his first career two-goal game, giving him three on the season, and Michael Cammalleri scored the winner on a power play in the opening minute of the third period for the Kings.
Los Angeles won its third straight and ended the Blues' best winning streak of the season at two games. The Blues have lost six in a row at home, matching a franchise worst set in 1996-97.
Dean McAmmond had two goals for St. Louis, tying him for the team lead with seven.
"I think the guys are getting the sense of what it's going to take to win games, and limiting our turnovers and getting some better chances," McAmmond said. "I think we're learning a little bit from that."
Blues goalie Curtis Sanford, making his fourth straight start in place of slumping Patrick Lalime, made 22 saves.
Demitra, who signed a free agent deal with the Kings after eight seasons with the Blues, has three goals and 11 assists in his last five games - a total that includes his other four-assist game Nov. 13 at Columbus. He had two goals against the Blues in Los Angeles on Oct. 29 and assisted on the Kings' first four goals in his first game back in St. Louis, getting the second assist on Cammalleri's seventh goal from the right side at 41 seconds of the third.
"Obviously he's on fire," Sanford said. "Even the games I've watched on TV, he seems to be getting points every night. He's an elite player."
Alexander Frolov earned his third assist of the game on Jeremy Roenick's insurance goal on a power play with 1:10 to go, putting the Kings up by two. Frolov added an empty-netter, his 12th goal, with 40 seconds left.
The Kings pulled away in the third period after the Blues rallied to tie it at 3 at the end of the second period.
"They tied it and all of a sudden we just took over," Demitra said. "That shows how good this team is."
Five seconds after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Sean Avery expired, the Kings converted on a 3-on-1 break for the game's first goal. Joseph Corvo scored off a feed from Demitra at 3:45 of the first.
The Blues tied it with a power-play goal at 12:10 when Dean McAmmond tapped in the rebound of a slap shot by Eric Weinrich for his sixth goal.
Corvo's second of the game and Eric Belanger's seventh of the season on the deflection of a Demitra blast from the right point put the Kings ahead 3-1 late in the second period. The Blues rallied to tie it on McAmmond's second goal, which trickled in off the pads of goalie Mathieu Garon, and Mark Rycroft's deflection at 18:22.
Notes: For the first time in five games, the Blues did not score the first goal. ... The Kings are 6-2 in their last eight games. ... Sanford is 7-3 in his first 10 starts, one victory short of the Blues' best 10-game start by Brent Johnson. ... The Kings were 2-for-9 on the power play. Blues opponents had been shut out in 11 chances the previous two games.
