KidSmart School Supply Drive

At the February 21 game the Blues and captain Eric Brewer teamed up with KidSmart for the first-ever KidSmart School Supply Drive. Thanks to our generous fans, volunteers collected more than 4,000 donated school supplies (such as pencils, paper, crayons and markers). The event also raised more than $8,000 through raffle ticket and mysterby bag sales and a special silent auction. All proceeds from the night benefit KidSmart, a local organization that provides school supplies for area students in need.

There are more than 80,000 students in St. Louis who cannot afford basic school supplies like pencils, paper and crayons. KidSmart helps these children succeed in school by providing free school supplies to teachers through KidSmart’s Free Store. After shopping, teachers distribute the materials directly into the hands of kids in need. Schools where 70% or more of the children are on the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program, a national poverty index, qualify to shop at KidSmart.

In 2007 Eric Brewer, and his wife Rebecca, joined forces with KidSmart and continue to be active volunteers and supporters. The Brewers hosted KidSmart's Angel Character Award winners at the February 21 game. The winners were treated to a pre-game Chalk Talk with Asst. Coach Brad Shaw and a Blues goody bag that included autographed photos from Eric. Eric and Rebecca also spent time with the winners as they enjoyed the game from a club level suite. The Angel Character Award Program recognizes and encourages the development of key character traits in students who attend one of KidSmart’s eligible shopping schools.
