Blues aim to go 2-for-2 in Edmonton

BLUES (15-14-5) at OILERS (15-16-4)

Last 10: St. Louis 5-5-0; Edmonton 5-4-1.

Season Series: This is the second of four meetings between the teams this season. The Oilers earned a 5-3 win against the Blues on Dec. 11 at the Scottrade Center. Gilbert Brule scored twice in the victory.

Big Story: Both teams have plagued by inconsistency this season and continue to experience difficulties with stringing wins together. The Oilers have lost three in a row, while St. Louis earned a 3-1 win at Vancouver on Sunday after dropping back-to-back games.

Team Scope:

Blues: David Backes and Ty Conklin saw to it that St. Louis opened its four-game road trip in winning fashion on Sunday. Backes scored twice and Conklin was solid in a 29-save effort as the Blues earned a hard-fought win against the Canucks at GM Place.

"Three tough buildings to play in," Conklin said of the road trip that continues on Monday and Edmonton and Calgary on Wednesday. "Three teams that are ahead of us, three teams that we're chasing. This is a good start."

Oilers: Edmonton enters Monday's action having lost its last three games. The most recent defeat came on Saturday night, as Alex Ovechkin scored twice in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals at Rexall Place. The Oilers held a 2-0 lead after two periods before falling apart in the final 20 minutes.

"Great players can do those sort of things to you sometimes," Edmonton coach Pat Quinn said. "Based on our first couple periods, we should have had a better result. We should have expected a better result and that's what is disappointing."

Who's Hot: Backes' two goals on Sunday give him nine for the season. … Oilers forward Shawn Horcoff scored on Saturday against the Caps. It was his third goal in six games.

Injury Report: Oilers center Marc Pouliot (sports hernia) and goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin (back) are day-to-day. Forwards Fernando Pisani (colitis) and Mike Comrie (mono) are out indefinitely, and right wing Ales Hemsky (shoulder) is done for the season.

Stat Pack: Oilers goalie Jeff Deslauriers has started 14 consecutive games, the longest stretch of his career.

Puck Drop: "The adversity we've gone through this year was self-made. We haven't had to battle too many injuries, but we just haven't played too well at home. We've been a good road team." -- Blues goalie Ty Conklin
