Athletes for Animals
Blues captain David Backes and his wife, Kelly, launched Athletes for Animals in November 2013.
Athletes for Animals is a united team of professional athletes with a shared passion for rescuing and protecting the welfare of homeless pets nationwide.
Athlete Ambassadors across the nation, including David Backes and Blues defenseman Barret Jackman, are using their public platforms to make an impact on the lives of homeless companion animals. Ambassadors help spread awareness about pet adoption and responsible pet ownership, including the benefits of spaying/neutering, by lending their voices to our cause, volunteering at local shelters, attending fundraisers and making charitable donations.
“This has been a dream of Kelly and I’s for years upon years, to have our own organization that helps animals,” Backes said. “We said let’s dive in and see what it takes. It’s been an undertaking, but we’re thrilled to be up and running. We’ve got awesome athletes that have been involved, and awesome people supporting us.
"We think we’re on our way to a great impact on animal welfare.”
