Fans can donate or volunteer to help build 35 homes in Joplin this year

The St. Louis Blues have partnered with Missouri sports teams and the Joplin Habitat for Humanity to build 35 homes for Joplin tornado victims.

The partnership was announced at halftime of the Missouri / Kansas basketball game on Feb. 4 at Mizzou Arena by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, who was joined by Blues Hall of Famer Bernie Federko, St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander, former St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Andy Benes, Kansas City Royals pitcher Aaron Crow, Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Matt Cassel, University of Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden and Kansas Speedway president Patrick Warren.

The 35 homes will be divided into seven different neighborhoods, with each neighborhood assigned a sponsor from among the seven Missouri athletic organizations. Representatives from each organization will visit their neighborhood on several occasions to serve alongside volunteers and professional builders in assisting with the construction, including framing, siding, painting and landscaping.

Blues fans can sign up to volunteer in Joplin or to contribute in support of the Challenge. For more information, visit
