Here are some ideas to take you back to the roarin' 20s!
Whether you choose to come as a flapper, moll (a gangster's girl) or in a 1920s evening dress, finding the perfect 20s attire is easier than you think.
There are lots of online resources for finding flapper dresses. You can check ebay, vintage shops or online costume shops. Don't forget to accessorize your outfit with a long pearl necklace or feather boa, and headband. If you have short hair you can create finger waves, or purchase a short bob wig. Vivid lipstick and a cigarette holder can finish off your flapper look.
A gangster's moll might dress a little swankier, or choose to have her own gangster style.
Evening dresses were usually low waisted and might include a deep V or U neckline, while covered with beads, fringe or feathers. This might be considered a more Great Gatsby look. Finish off your outfit with a long strand of pearls, a boa or shawl. Again, you can try looking at online vintage stores or local stores.
You could also come as a famous person from the era, such as Greta Garbo.
Overall, short hair was popular in the 20s, as was red lips, dark eyes, and short heels.
Men's attire in the 1920s is not that different from business attire today. Suit jackets were usually single breasted, with winter colors of dark grey, blue or brown. Men also wore tuxedos for evening events and dinner parties. Fellas could wear a suit with tie, or a vest or suspenders with suit pants and white shirt. Hats were very popular - fedoras, driving caps, derby hats.
The 1920s gangster costume can be a pinstripe suit, or a normal business suit. Top it off with a fedora hat and add some extras like a mustache, wing tipped shoes and a Tommy gun replica. You could also go with a zoot suit, top hat and pointy shoes.
Add a bow tie, pocket handkerchief or boutonniere, or pocket watch to any men's 20s look.
Men in the 20s parted their hair in many ways, or slicked their hair straight back.
Be even more creative and dress as someone famous from the era like Charlie Chaplin or The Red Baron.
Suits, hats and other accessories can also be found at online costume shops or local vintage shops.
