Team Name and Emblem

In 1967 the city of St. Louis was awarded an NHL franchise. The selection of the team's name was an easy one for owner Sid Saloman Jr.

"The name of the team has to be the Blues," exclaimed Salomon after being awarded the new franchise. "It's part of the city where W.C. handy composed his famed song while thinking of his girl one morning."

The city has a tradition for blues singers, and the team name represents its rich history. Salomon said, "No matter where you go in town there's singing, that's the spirit of St. Louis."

The emblem the team proudly displays on their sweater is the Blue Note. The Blue Note was taken from the music scale and represents the team's name.

Although the Blue Note has been enhanced and modernized, it remains a St. Louis tradition.
