McRae, Regner Get 1-Year, 2-Way Deals

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed forward Phil McRae and defenseman Brent Regner to one-year, two-way contracts.

McRae, 24, spent the majority of last season in Finland's top professional league (Liiga) with the Espoo Blues, ranking sixth on the club with 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 45 regular season games. He also added four points, including three goals in seven postseason appearances.

Previously, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward made his NHL debut with the Blues on Jan. 12, 2011. He went on to play in 15 regular season games during the 2010-11 season, tallying three points, including his first career NHL goal on Jan. 26, 2011 at Calgary.

McRae also has American Hockey League (AHL) experience, appearing in 162 games with the Peoria Rivermen from 2010 to 2013, totaling 83 points (42 goals, 41 assists) and 68 penalty minutes.

Internationally, the St. Louis native and product of CBC High School has represented the U.S. three times in his career, including the 2008 U-18 World Juniors, where he earned a gold medal.

The son of former Blue Basil McRae (1992-96), Phil was originally drafted by St. Louis in the second round, 33rd overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Regner, 25, dressed in 63 games with the Blues’ AHL affiliate, Chicago Wolves last season, ranking third among team defensemen with 24 points (three goals, 21 assists). He also led the defense with six points (two goals, four assists) in nine postseason games.

Overall, the 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman has spent the majority of the last five seasons in the AHL, including stints with Syracuse, Springfield, Peoria and Chicago. In 317 career regular season games, Regner has accumulated 113 points (18 goals, 95 assists) and 130 penalty minutes.

The Westlock, Alberta native was originally drafted by Columbus in the fifth round, 137th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
