UPDATE: Vladimir Tarasenko underwent a successful surgery on Wednesday, March 19. He will be re-evaluated in six weeks.

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Sunday that forward Vladimir Tarasenko will undergo surgery after injuring his right hand during a 4-1 win against the Nashville Predators on March 15.

Tarasenko’s procedure will be performed Wednesday by Dr. Charles Goldfarb of Washington University Orthopedics and Barnes-Jewish Hospital and he will be reevaluated in six weeks.

In addition, the Blues have recalled forward Dmitrij Jaskin from the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, on an emergency basis.

"The positive part for Tarasenko is he's going to come back as fast as he can and because it's a hand injury, he's going to come back in amazing shape," Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said after practice on Monday. "He's going to be able to hit the ground running."

Tarasenko, 22, has appeared in 64 games this season, ranking sixth on the club with 43 points (21 goals, 22 assists), while his plus-20 rating shares 18th among forwards overall.

Currently in his second NHL season, the 6-foot, 219-pound forward has accumulated 62 points (29 goals, 33 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 102 career games. The Yaroslavl, Russia native was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2010 NHL Draft.
