Blues Make Annual Holiday Hospital Visits
Blues players made their annual holiday hospital visits on Friday, Dec. 6.

ST. LOUIS - The Blues made their annual holiday hospital visits after practice on Friday.

Players split up into groups and visited St. Louis Children's Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and Ranken Jordan.

During the visit, players met with patients and their families, posed for photos, signed autographs and delivered gifts.

Here are some comments from some of the people we talked to:

Brenden Morrow
St. Louis Blues - No. 10
"Obviously the hospital staff and the doctors and nurses are the ones that are the real heroes here. We just show up. But if we can get (the kids') mind off of what they're going through for a minute, maybe catch a smile out of them...it's a pretty simple job for us."

Alexander Steen
St. Louis Blues - No. 20
"This is the biggest (charity appearance) of the year, especially at this time of the year, around the holidays. It's for the kids, but for the parents as well, to come and get distracted a little bit and have some fun with us goofballs. It's been a good day. It's a lot of fun."

Magnus Paajarvi
St. Louis Blues - No. 56
"It's awesome. I love the visits, especially for the children's hospital. It really is cool to see the smiles that you can (get) just by showing up. It's pretty cool to have that ability and it really gives you perspective on life. I really enjoy it and it's good for us. To get that smile, that's worth everything."

David Backes
St. Louis Blues - No. 42
"It's two hours of our day and we're going to be able to brighten the days of some of these kids who have really done nothing wrong. They're here just by bad circumstance. Hopefully they can have a glimmer of hope and get out of here and home for the holidays."

Christy Merrell

"I have to say the Blues organization goes beyound our expectations when they come to our hosptal and visit the kids. I love watching their responses when the hockey players go in the rooms and make a difference. Giving them backpacks, pennants and signing autographs as long as they want, it makes a huge difference for the kids, and for me to be able to witness what great guys they really are."

"I sat at the edge of my bed just staring (the players) down until they came into my room because I was excited. I saw them and I wasn't expecting it. I had never met any famous sports players, so I was excited."

"He was laying in bed and he just had a feeding tube put in today and he was really down. Unless you spend a lot of time in and out of a hospital, I don't think you realize how much (these Blues visits) mean. Just him sitting on the bed and then that smile comes on his face, it's for them."

Jessica Rector, a patient at St. Louis Children's Hospital, tweeted this shortly after being visited by Steen, Paajarvi and Ian Cole:
