Halak Sets Franchise Shutout Record

ST. LOUIS – Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak made 19 saves and set a new franchise record with his 17th shutout as the Blues beat the Florida Panthers 7-0 on Saturday night at Scottrade Center.

Halak surpassed the previous mark set by Glenn Hall, who posted 16 shutouts in 140 games as a Blue from 1968 to 1971.

Halak, 28, recorded his 17th shutout in just his 121st game as a Blue, giving him a shutout per games played ratio of one in every 7.12 starts, which leads all NHL goaltenders since he joined the Blues in June 2010.

The Bratislava, Slovakia native began his Blues career on a torrid pace, posting three shutouts in his first nine games, eclipsing Jacques Plante as the quickest goaltender in club history to record three shutouts (Plante recorded three shutouts in 11 games in 1968).

In 2011-12, Halak and goaltending tandem partner Brian Elliott crafted a record-setting season en route to capturing the second Jennings Trophy in franchise history. The pair tied a modern day NHL record and set a new Blues franchise record for combined shutouts in a single season (15), while they also became the first tandem in NHL history to each record at least six shutouts in the same season.

A former ninth round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2003, Halak is climbing several other goaltending categories in franchise history. His 61 career wins are just two shy of tying Manny Legace for eighth while he sits just one shy of Vincent Riendeau for 10th on the all-time games played list.

In addition, Halak currently owns the franchise’s second-best career save percentage (.916) and the fifth best goals-against average (2.23).
