Armstrong, Affleck Named President
Doug Armstrong has been named President of Hockey Operations \/ General Manager and Bruce Affleck has been named President of Business Operations.

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Chairman and Governor Tom Stillman announced today that Doug Armstrong has been named President of Hockey Operations and General Manager / Alternate Governor and Bruce Affleck has been named President of Business Operations / Alternate Governor.

“Having worked closely with Doug and Bruce for the past year, I have been able to observe their skills, dedication, and professionalism first-hand,” said Stillman. “These changes are a strong statement of confidence in their leadership now and into the future.”

Armstrong becomes the Blues’ President of Hockey Operations after three seasons as the Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations. Armstrong was originally named the 11th General Manager in Blues history on July 1, 2010 after a two-year stint as the club’s Vice President of Player Personnel. As General Manager, Armstrong guided the club to its second best season in franchise history and the Central Division Title in 2011-12 en route to earning the NHL’s 2012 General Manager of the Year Award.

During his tenure, Armstrong has brought in key members of the organization, including 2012 Jack Adams winner Ken Hitchcock and 2012 Jennings Trophy winners Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak, as well as extended the contracts of such core players as David Backes, Patrik Berglund and T.J. Oshie. Armstrong has also orchestrated the additions of Jay Bouwmeester, Kevin Shattenkirk and Chris Stewart as well as the drafts of Dmitrij Jaskin, Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko.

In addition, this season, the Sarnia, Ontario native will return in his second stint as Team Canada’s Associate Director of Player Personnel at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games.

Overall, Armstrong has spent nine seasons as a General Manager in the NHL, including three with the Blues and six with Dallas. He is one of two NHL General Managers (Steve Yzerman) that are members of the “Triple Gold Club,” having been on the management staff for a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold Medal and World Championship Gold Medal.

Affleck previously served as the Blues’ COO after serving five seasons as the Vice President of Broadcasting and Blues Alumni.

Affleck first came to St. Louis as a player after being traded from the California Seals in 1975. The Penticton, British Columbia native played defense for five seasons with the Blues, appearing in 274 games overall.

After hockey, Affleck worked with W.M. French Realtors, a corporate relocation firm. He again joined the Blues in 1987 as sales manager and later would be named Vice President of Sales for the Blues and Scottrade Center. He also handled the color radio broadcast duties and eventually became a color television analyst with KPLR-TV and FOX Sports Midwest until the 2001 season.

Since his playing days, Affleck has been heavily involved with many charities, including the St. Louis Blues 14 Fund, March of Dimes and St. Louis University Lupus Foundation. He also helped start the Blues Alumni Association and the St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame into which he was inducted in 2012.
