Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong informed the media of the decision on Sunday.

Arnott, 38, joined the team on last week’s five-game road trip. He had been skating with the Blues during team practices while Armstrong evaluated whether to add the veteran forward to the roster, which has been hampered by injuries to key players.

But with news that Andy McDonald (knee) and Alex Steen (upper body) have been skating and may be closer to returning to the lineup, Armstrong informed Arnott that the team wouldn’t be signing him.

Arnott played in 72 games with the Blues last season, registering 17 goals and 17 assists (34 points). Overall, he has played in 1,244 NHL games, scoring 417 goals and 521 assists (938 points).

McDonald, who has been out of the lineup since suffering a knee injury in practice on Feb. 26, joined the Blues on their road trip and has recently resumed practicing with the team.

“Hopefully I’ll be back in the lineup soon,” McDonald told John Kelly and Darren Pang during Sunday’s game against Anaheim.

Steen, who suffered an upper body injury in practice on Feb. 26, did not travel with the team last week but has been skating on his own in St. Louis.

Vladimir Tarasenko, who has been sidelined since Feb. 20 with a concussion, has resumed light skating. There is no timetable on his return.
