Vladimir Tarasenko, who was hit in the head during the third period of Wednesday’s 1-0 overtime loss in Colorado, has been placed on injured reserve.
Ken Hitchcock said Tarasenko suffered a severe facial laceration and had a headache on Friday. At the very least, he won’t play on Saturday when the Blues host the Blue Jackets.
Tarasenko was hit up high by Avalanche forward Mark Olver on Wednesday. He was able to skate off the ice on his own power, but was taken to a Denver hospital after the incident. He traveled with the team back to St. Louis after the game.
Tarasenko, who was named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for January, has posted 12 points for the Blues this season (6 goals, 6 assists). He tallied 5 points in his first two NHL games, tying Wayne Babych for the best start to a rookie career in franchise history.
The Blues have recalled forward Chris Porter from the Peoria Rivermen. Porter has played in 12 games with the Rivermen this season, tallying 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists).
