Langenbrunner has Successful Surgery

UPDATE:

(Feb. 15) - Jamie Langenbrunner underwent successful surgery on his left hip but will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2012-13 season. The procedure was performed by doctors John Clohisy and Matt Smith, both orthopedic surgeons with the Washington University School of Medicine.

EARLIER STORY:

ST. LOUIS - Jamie Langenbrunner will undergo hip surgery and will be sidelined indefinitely.

The 37-year-old Blues forward met with team doctors after experiencing growing pain in his hip and it was determined that surgery was the only option.

Langenbrunner said that after surgery, he expects to rehab the injury for approximately six months and resume his career after that.

"I don't want to end my career like this," Langenbrunner said Saturday. "Hopefully I can get this done and have six months of getting it back in shape and hopefully come back stronger and feel better when the summer comes. Hopefully I'll play again next year."

Langenbrunner has played in four games this season, registering one assist.

Overall, Langenbrunner has played in 18 NHL seasons, amassing 663 points (243 goals, 420 assists) and 837 penalty minutes in 1,109 games. A two-time Stanley Cup Champion (Dallas 1999, New Jersey 2003), Langenbrunner has registered 87 points (34 goals, 53 assists) in 146 NHL playoff games.

While he recovers from surgery, expect Langenbrunner to remain around the team.

"I signed here this past summer because I loved our team and I loved the chance we have going forward," he said. "Missing being in that locker room will probably be the hardest part. (Doug Armstrong) was great about getting the surgery and wanting me around. I guess I'll be some sort of a scout from the press box or something, but it was great that they included me in that.

"It's not quite the same as being on the ice, but I get to still at least be a part of it."
