Allen Named Assistant Coach in Peoria

PEORIA - Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced Tuesday the St. Louis Blues have named Scott Allen as an assistant coach of the Rivermen. He joins Head Coach Dave Allison, who was hired in June, on the bench.

Allen, 46, spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders. Prior to joining the Islanders, he had spent the previous seven years in the American Hockey League as either a head coach or assistant coach.

The New Bedford, MA native began his coaching career in 1996 as an assistant with Calgary's then East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs, before taking over as head coach in 1997. He led the Chiefs to three straight Kelly Cup Playoff appearances, reaching the American Conference Championship twice.

After six years with the Chiefs, Allen joined the Phoenix Coyotes AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, for two seasons, first as an assistant coach and then as head coach. Allen rejoined the Calgary organization in 2004 as an assistant coach for the AHL’s Lowell Lock Monsters. The Flames affiliate moved from Lowell to Omaha, NE in the 2005-06 season, where Allen also served as the assistant coach for the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. Allen moved with the Flames affiliate again in 2007 and was an assistant coach with the Quad City Flames until joining the Islanders on July 20, 2009.

During his 10-year professional playing career, Allen competed in the All American Hockey League, Atlantic Coast Hockey League, Colonial Hockey League, Central Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League. During the 1988-89 campaign, Allen won the first of his personal back-to-back ECHL titles, first with the Carolina Thunderbirds 1989 and then in 1990 as a member of the Greensboro Monarchs.
