Perron Signs 4-Year Deal with the Blues

ST. LOUIS - The Blues have agreed to a new deal with restricted free agent David Perron, coming to terms on a four-year contract Thursday.

“We’re excited to have David in the fold for the next four years,” General Manager Doug Armstrong said in a team press release. “He made a great comeback by scoring 21 goals in 57 games. We’re comfortable with his health, and we’re confident that he will continue to build on his offense.”

“I love the city of St. Louis and I’m thrilled to play in front of these awesome fans for another four years,” Perron said. “We had an excellent regular season but we all feel this team has so much more to accomplish.”

The new deal should keep Perron in a Blues jersey at least through the 2015-16 season. The 24-year-old dressed in 57 regular season games last season, recording 21 goals and 21 assists (42 points).

Despite missing the first 25 games of the season with concussion symptoms, Perron finished fifth on the team in points. He was second in goals and fourth in plus/minus (plus-19). He had five power play goals and set a new career-high in game-winning goals (4).

In nine postseason contests, Perron notched a goal and four assists.

Although happy with his improvement after returning from a significant injury, Perron says he still has more to give.

"I think when you look at the 10 games that I played before my injury, I was really good, not only on the offensive side of the puck, but defensively, I was really aware out there," he said. "I want to get back to that point. I think last year, I showed some flashes of that, but I want to be really good on both sides of the puck.

"As a player, you want to improve every year."

Since entering the League in 2007, Perron has played in 292 career games, totaling 74 goals and 99 assists (173 points).

"David has been a key member of our franchise," Armstrong said. "We really think he is a big part of our current team and a big part of our future."

Shortly after the signing was announced, Perron posted the following message on his Twitter account (@DP_57): "Agreed to a four-year deal with the Blues. Couldn't be happier to be back in St. Louis!!! Can't wait to start training camp in September."

The Sherbrooke, Quebec native was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, 26th overall, of the 2007 Entry Draft.
