ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Monday the club has signed forward Brett Sterling to a one-year, two-way contract.

“Brett has been a top goal scorer wherever he’s been and gives our organization depth at the forward position,” said Armstrong.

Sterling, 27, spent the majority of this past season with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Wiles-Barre/Scranton Penguins dressing in 65 games and tallying 53 points including 27 goals and 26 assists to go along with 88 penalty minutes.

The 5’7”, 175-pound forward also appeared in seven games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2010-11 recording five points including three goals and two assists as well as 16 penalty minutes.

Overall, Sterling has dressed in 26 NHL games between Atlanta and Pittsburgh posting nine points (five goals, four assists) and 32 penalty minutes while his five-year AHL career has yielded 316 points (171 goals, 145 assists) and 422 penalty minutes over 319 games.

The Los Angeles, California native was originally drafted by Atlanta in the fifth round, 145th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
