Halak Joins Team Slovakia at Worlds

Halak, 25, previously represented Slovakia at the 2004 and 2005 IIHF World Junior Championships, the 2007 and 2008 IIHF World Championships as well as the 2010 Winter Olympics.
In his fifth NHL season and first with the Blues in 2010-11, the 5’11, 185-pound goaltender posted a career high 27 wins including seven shutouts, which tied for fourth among all NHL goaltenders, in a career most 57 games played.
In addition, Halak recorded three shutouts in his first nine games with the Blues surpassing the club standard set by Jacques Plante, who posted his third shutout in his 11th game in November of 1968. The Bratislava, Slovakia native was acquired by the Blues from Montreal on June 17, 2010.
Halak joins five other Blues currently playing in the World Championships. Chris Porter, Ty Conklin and Kevin Shattenkirk will play for Team USA, while Chris Stewart and Alex Pietrangelo join Team Canada.
The 2011 IIHF World Championship will take place in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia, April 29-May 15. Updated stats from the tournament will be posted at www.stlouisblues.com.
