Ray Barile and Bert Godin also named to USA staff at World Championships

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues goaltender Ty Conklin, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and forward Chris Porter will represent Team USA at the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Men’s Championship in Slovakia.

In addition, Blues Athletic Trainer Ray Barile and Equipment Manager Bert Godin were named to Team USA’s staff.

Conklin, 35, competed for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2004 (bronze) and 2005 IIHF World Men's Championships and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. This past season for the Blues, he played in 25 games, registering an 8-8-4 record including two shutouts. The Eagle River, Alaska native was signed by St. Louis as a free agent on July 1, 2009.

Shattenkirk, 22, was a member of the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team and silver medal-winning 2007 U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team. He recenlty completed his first National Hockey League (NHL) season, and led all NHL rookies with 34 assists and led all rookie defenseman with 43 points (nine goals, 34 assists) in 72 games played. The 5’11”, 193-pound defenseman compiled a nine-game point streak this season from Nov. 17-Dec. 4 (four goals, 10 assists), becoming just the second rookie defenseman in NHL history to register a point streak of nine-or-more games, joining Barry Beck, who had a pair of 10-game streaks with the Colorado Rockies in 1977-78. Shattenkirk was acquired by the Blues along with Chris Stewart from Colorado on Feb. 19, 2011. The Greenwich, Connecticut native was originally drafted by Colorado in the first round, 14th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Porter, 26, will be making his Team USA debut at this year’s tournament. He played in a career-high 45 games this season with the Blues, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) and 16 penalty minutes and also registered a career-high three-point game (two goals, one assist) on March 30 at Detroit. Porter also played in 36 games for the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate Peoria Rivermen, notching 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists). The 6’1”, 200-pound forward was acquired by the Blues as a free agent on Aug. 21, 2007 and was originally drafted by Chicago in the ninth round, 282nd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2011 IIHF World Championship will take place in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia, April 29-May 15. Updated stats from the tournament will be posted here at www.stlouisblues.com.
