Jaden Schwartz will be lacing up the skates at Scottrade Center a bit earlier than expected.

A first-round draft choice of the Blues in 2010 (14th overall), Schwartz will take the ice with Colorado College (22-18-3) after receiving an at-large bid in the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Division I Championship Tournament.

He'll face off with defending champion Boston College on Friday at 8 p.m. in the tournament's West Regional. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Schwartz, a freshmen, has 15 goals and 27 assists (42 points) in 28 games for Colorado. He leads all freshman in scoring with 1.5 points per game. The Melfort, Saskatchewan native missed 15 games with a broken ankle after sustaining it as a member of Team Canada in just his second game of the World Junior Championships earlier this year.

"I knew there was a chance (of playing in St. Louis), and it was pretty cool," Schwartz told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "On a big stage like this, I'm really excited to play there."

In addition, Blues legend Red Berenson will return to Scottrade Center as the long-time coach of the Michigan Wolverines, who face off with Nebraska-Omaha at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the regional's opening game. Berenson played 519 games as a member of the Blues, placing seventh in goals (172) and eighth in points (412) and assists (240).  He also led the Blues to a 100-72-32 record as the team's head coach.

As the head coach of the Wolverines since 1984, Berenson has coached Michigan to 10 Frozen Four appearances and two NCAA championships (1996 and 1998).

Berenson was in town earlier in March as part of the Blues' Salute to No. 7 on March 7 vs. Colorado.

The winners of Friday's games will face off on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Scottrade Center, meaning Schwartz could face off with Berenson's Wolverines.

Sixteen teams are participating in the tournament. The winners of each regional will advance to the Frozen Four in St. Paul, MN, where a champion will be crowned on Saturday, Apr. 9.

Tickets for the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey West Regional are available now at the Scottrade Center Box Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
