Oshie Continues to Improve

Blues forward is participating in full practice; still a few weeks away

ST. LOUIS – Despite participating in another full practice Wednesday, Blues forward T.J. Oshie said he is still likely a few weeks away from returning from a broken ankle.

Oshie appeared to be skating near 100 percent during the Blues hour-long skate, participating with no limitations. He even flew with the team to Toronto for Thursday's game with the Maple Leafs, his first road trip with the team since injuring his left ankle in the Blues' 8-1 loss at Columbus on Nov. 10.

But even though he looked ready for game action Wednesday, Oshie cautioned that it would still be some time before he returns to the ice.

"I'm trying to get better each day," Oshie said. "I'm still obviously not quite where I want to be so just skating with the boys and having fun out there is nice. I'm still a couple weeks away at the very least from playing, but just going on the trip with the team and just getting back in the flow with the guys and getting my timing back on the ice.

"I think I'm still eight weeks or nine weeks from a broken leg so I still have a long way to go, but we're getting better each day and I'm feeling good."

Oshie led the Blues with 10 points on a goal and nine assists before he was injured.

The winger had surgery on Nov. 11 and wasn't scheduled to be re-evaluated for three months. Oshie has upped that timetable and the club hopes he can return around the All-Star break in late January.

"Another positive day," said Blues coach Davis Payne. "He seemed to get a little more involved in situations. It's one thing to be out there skating and be in control of the situation, but when you get into different traffic situations and he's skating backwards and he fell down a time or two and understanding that it's not going to hurt. These are all things he has to go through.

"We'll see how the ankle responds to today's work and see where tomorrow brings us. We know this is a significant injury and we're not going to put any one game or trying to get ahead of any schedule at risk for making sure he is ready to go the rest of the way."
