Unlike previous seasons where fans selected a starting lineup for both conferences, this year hockey fans selected just one starting lineup consisting of three forwards, two defenseman and a goalie without regard to conference.
Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury won the first overall vote among goalies and will start between the pipes in the All-Star showcase.
Halak finished with 143,783 votes, beating Detroit's Jimmy Howard as the top vote-getting goalie in the West. Halak also finished ahead of Buffalo's Ryan Miller and Vancouver's Roberto Luongo.
The 2011 starters, determined by fan vote, are: Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh), Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh), Jonathan Toews (Chicago), Kris Letang (Pittsburgh), Duncan Keith (Chicago) and Fleury (Pittsburgh).
The remaining 36 All-Stars will be selected by the Hockey Operations departments from all 30 teams, meaning Halak still could appear in this year's All-Star Game. An announcement of the rest of the All-Stars is expected on Jan. 11.
Blues forward T.J. Oshie finished with 33,084 votes, good for 47th overall among forwards. Oshie finished ahead of Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier, Buffalo's Thomas Vanek and New Jersey's Ilya Kovalchuk. More than 14.3 million votes were tallied.
The All-Star Game will be held Sunday, Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. CT and will be televised live on VERSUS.
