Mike McKenna is expected to start for the New Jersey Devils in place of an injured Martin Brodeur.
McKenna, who was born in St. Louis and attended Blues training camp on a tryout basis in 2007, was recalled by the Devils on Friday under emergency conditions. During the summer months, he frequently skates with several Blues players at the IceZone at St. Louis Mills, the Blues' official practice facility.
Before signing with the Devils, McKenna played in 15 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"It's going to be like the other 15 NHL games I've played," McKenna told Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger. "You've got to win a game if you want to have fun. So first and foremost, that's what's going through my head."
McKenna is 2-4 in seven appearances for the Devils' AHL affiliate, the Albany Devils. He has a 3.72 goals-against average and a .882 save percentage.
Brodeur re-aggravated an elbow injury this week and returned to New Jersey for further evaluation.
