ST. LOUIS – Team Gold defeated Team Blue 5-4 in a shootout at the Blues’ training camp scrimmage at Scottrade Center on Sunday morning.
Brad Boyes scored the shootout winner on goaltender Gerald Coleman, while defensive prospect Nikita Nitkin also scored for the Gold Team in the shootout.
"It was good. Pace wasn't bad, and being the first ones to go, I think it was a good start," Boyes said about the scrimmage.
"Guys are still learning some of the systems and some of the changes. Some worked real well, some ran around a little bit, but overall it wasn't bad. We scored a few goals out there too which is nice to see."
Losing 4-3 late in the game, prospect Adam Cracknell tallied a goal with 2:16 remaining in the game for Team Gold, helping force the shootout.
The game featured two 25-minute halves with a running clock. Play stopped in the final two minutes of each period.
Stefan Della-Rovere, acquired late in the summer from Washington for forward D.J. King, had a goal and an assist for the Gold team. Patrik Berglund and Matt D'Agostini both registered a goal and an assist for Team Blue.
