ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Tuesday the club has re-signed defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo to a two-year contract extension.

“Carlo has been a solid part of our defensive core for the past two seasons,” said Armstrong. “Puck moving defensemen are not easy to find in this league and Carlo’s offensive abilities will be heavily counted on for the next two seasons.”

“I've said all along that St. Louis was the only place that I wanted to play,” said Colaiacovo. “Management has put together an exciting team and I wish the season started tomorrow.”

Colaiacovo, 27, played in a career-high 67 games last season and finished second among Blues defenseman with a career-high 32 points (seven goals, 25 assists).

The 6-1, 200-pound defenseman has played in seven NHL seasons, skating in 241 games, registering 94 points (22 goals, 72 assists) along with 146 penalty minutes.

The Toronto, Ontario native was acquired by the Blues along with Alex Steen from Toronto in exchange for Lee Stempniak on Nov. 24, 2008 and was originally drafted by Toronto in the first round, 17th overall in the 2001 Entry Draft.
