The Blues learned Tuesday night they will pick 14th in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The draft order for the Top 14 picks at the draft is determined by a Draft Lottery, which was held Tuesday in New York. The lottery is held after the regular season concludes each year.

The remaining 16 picks will be chosen based on how teams finish in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With 90 points in the regular season, the Blues earned the 14th pick at this year's draft. Had they won Tuesday's lottery, they would have moved up to No. 10. Teams can leap up four positions but only fall one spot from their original pick. The league's worst team in the regular season (Edmonton Oilers in 2009-10) have a 25 percent chance of retaining the No. 1 overall pick.

In 2006, the Blues retained the pick and selected defenseman Erik Johnson.

The 2010 NHL Entry Draft will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The first round will take place on Friday, June 25 beginning at 6 p.m. and the subsequent rounds (two through seven) will begin at noon on Saturday, June 26.
