John Davidson described this year's trade deadline as "not overly busy" when it comes to the St. Louis Blues.

"We had some healthy discussions. When you get into a complicated trade deadline in terms of players, draft picks and budgets, you start talking about different ways of making certain things work," Davidson said.

"Sometimes that puzzle is like a square peg in a round hole, it just doesn't fit. I wouldn't say we were overly busy, but we had some very intriguing discussions."

The team made a few minor moves, including trading prospect Aaron Palushaj to Montreal in exchange for forward Matt D'Agostini.

D'Agostini has played in 40 games with the Canadiens this season and has 4 points. He scored 12 goals in 53 games with Montreal last year.

In addition, the club sent Yan Stastny to the Vancouver Canucks for prospect Pierre-Cedric Labrie on Wednesday.

Labrie, 23, has played in 45 games this season in the AHL and has 6 points. He will report to the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL.

Speculation was that the Blues would ask its unrestricted free agents like Paul Kariya and Keith Tkachuk to waive their no trade clauses. Davidson said when you consider where the team is at this point, it didn't make sense.

"Would you like us to go make the trades? Trade these players and end up 10 points out of the playoffs or would you rather keep the players and get into the playoffs? If you get in, anything can happen," Davidson said.

"We're a much better team than we used to be. We want to make the playoffs, period."

"Our room is unaffected. It should be a tight room."
