5 Blues Prospects Could Play in World Jrs.

Pietrangelo, Allen, McRae among players with chance to represent country

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo along with prospect goaltender Jake Allen have been invited to take part in Canada’s National Junior selection camp from Dec. 12-16, 2009 in Regina, Saskatchewan. In addition, prospects Philip McRae and David Warsofsky were named to the preliminary roster for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team that will participate in a three-day pre-tournament training camp from Dec. 17-19 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Blues 2009 first round draft choice David Rundblad has been selected to represent Sweden at this year’s tournament.

Pietrangelo, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the first round, fourth overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. A native of King City, Ontario, Pietrangelo has skated in nine games for the Blues this season, registering two points (one goal, one assist) along with six penalty minutes. The 6-3, 204-pound defenseman played in eight games for the Blues last season and appeared in 36 games for the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), recording 29 points (eight goals, 21 assists) and 32 penalty minutes. Pietrangelo made his second consecutive appearance at the 2009 OHL All-Star Game and helped Team Canada capture the gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championship.

Allen, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the second round, 34th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-1, 190-pound goaltender has played in 19 games this season with the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), posting an 8-9-1 record, one shutout, a .907 save percentage and a 2.83 goals against average.

McRae, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the second round, 33rd overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-2, 195-pound forward has appeared in 26 games with the London Knights of the OHL, recording 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) and 41 penalty minutes.

Warsofsky, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the fourth round, 95th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 5-8, 164-pound defenseman has played in 10 games with Boston University this season, notching eight points (four goals, four assists) along with 28 penalty minutes. Last season, Warsofsky was one of seven Terriers to play in all 45 contests and as a freshman helped his team win the national title. He ranked fourth nationally and first among freshmen in plus/minus at plus-26. Warsofsky’s 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) led all Hockey East freshman defensemen.

Rundblad, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the first round, 17th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. This season, he has played in 24 games with Skellefteå of the Swedish Elite League, registering two assists and eight penalty minutes. This will mark the second consecutive year that Runblad will participate in the World Junior Championship.

In addition to Blues prospects being named to the tournament, St. Louis native John Ramage, son of former Blue Rob Ramage, was selected to USA Hockey’s preliminary roster. This season he has played in 14 games with the University of Wisconsin, recording five points (two goals, three assists) and 12 penalty minutes.

The 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship will take place from Dec. 26, 2009-Jan. 5, 2010, in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan.
