Blues to Air 77 Games on Television
ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Blues announced today that Fox Sports Midwest and KPLR-TV will televise 72 Blues games during the 2008-09 season, a significant increase from past seasons. In addition, the National Hockey League’s national television partner VERSUS will broadcast five Blues games, marking a franchise-record 77 games to be televised in 2008-09.

Blues fans will also see more games than ever before in high definition, as Fox Sports Midwest will produce approximately 30 games in HD, in addition to five high-definition telecasts on VERSUS. Fox Sports Midwest’s HD schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We’re thrilled that our excellent broadcast partners Fox Sports Midwest and KPLR have worked with us to deliver 72 Blues games into the homes of our fans,” said Peter McLoughlin, CEO of St. Louis Blues Enterprises. “Our fans will also see Blues games in high definition more than 30 times this season, which is a huge increase from last season.”

“We’re proud to bring more games and significantly more high definition telecasts to Blues fans throughout the region,” said Jack Donovan, Fox Sports Midwest General Manager and Senior Vice President.

In the 2007-08 season, the Blues had 69 games televised (65 games combined on Fox Sports Midwest and KPLR, 10 of which were HD along with four games on VERSUS). From 1999-2000 - 2007-08 (with the exception of the lockout season), Fox Sports Midwest and KPLR broadcasted 65 games in each of those seasons. The 2008-09 season marks the ninth consecutive NHL season that both partners have televised at least 65 regular season Blues games.

Fox Sports Midwest, entering its 13th season as the Blues’ flagship television partner, will air 51 games, (approximately 30 of which will be in HD) and will begin with the season opener on Friday, October 10 when the Blues host the Nashville Predators at Scottrade Center. Coverage of every game on Fox Sports Midwest begins and ends with Blues Live, the network’s in-depth pregame and postgame show.

John Kelly returns to the broadcast booth for his fourth consecutive season with the Blues while entering his 19th season calling play-by-play action in the NHL. Kelly, son of the late legendary Blues broadcaster Dan Kelly, Sr., will be alongside Hockey Hall of Famer Bernie Federko for all games being televised on Fox Sports Midwest and KPLR. This season represents Federko’s eighth as the Blues’ television color analyst. Dan McLaughlin, in his 13th season covering the Blues, and Jim Hayes will serve as in-game reporters and contributors to Blues Live. Pat Parris will host Blues Live, with former Blue Bruce Affleck as a studio analyst.

KPLR, entering its 11th consecutive NHL season as a Blues broadcast television partner, will televise 21 games, highlighted by 19 games on weekends, which includes 15 Saturday night games.

The Blues will play five times on VERSUS throughout the season as the network enters its fourth season as the NHL’s national television partner. In total, VERSUS will televise 56 regular-season NHL games, All-Star weekend, games in each round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final. Every game on VERSUS is produced and shown in HD where available.
