Johnson, Perron Named to NHL YoungStars Game

ST. LOUIS – The National Hockey League announced today that Erik Johnson and David Perron have been named to play in the NHL’s YoungStars game on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Johnson, 19, is in his first NHL season with the Blues. He has played in 31 games this season and is tied for 10th among NHL rookies with 16 points (three goals, 13 assists). Johnson currently ranks fourth on the team and fifth among league rookies with a plus-10 rating. His three goals this season have all been game-winning goals which ties him for second among NHL rookies.

The Bloomington, Minnesota native was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, first overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Perron, 19, is also in his first NHL season. He has skated in 31 games with the Blues this season, ranking eighth among NHL rookies with 18 points (nine goals, nine assists). Perron ranks third on the club and third among league rookies with a plus-12 rating. His nine goals ties him for third among NHL rookies.

The Sherbrooke, Quebec native was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, 26th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Comprising the best of the League's stellar rookie class in 2007-08, the eight-player Eastern and Western Conference YoungStar teams will face off in a new three-on-three event as part of the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills competition on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Philips Arena in Atlanta (7 p.m., ET, VERSUS, CBC, RDS). The YoungStars will be shooting against goaltenders named to participate in the NHL All-Star Game the following day.

YoungStars players were selected by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department, in consultation with League General Managers.

The 2008 NHL All-Star Weekend in Atlanta will feature live broadcasts of Dodge/NHL SuperSkills on Saturday, Jan. 26 and the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, Jan. 27 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada. NASN and other international broadcasters will provide live coverage of both Dodge/NHL SuperSkills and the NHL All-Star Game to more than 115 countries and territories in Europe. NHL RADIO on Westwood One will provide exclusive national radio coverage which can be heard on stations around the United States and Canada as well as on XM
Satellite Radio's NHL Home Ice and NHL.com.
