Officer Re-Enlists in Navy at Scottrade Center

With the decision to re-enlist in the U.S. Navy firm in his mind, Petty Officer Joseph Moody had no idea his re-enlistment would be so memorable.

When his commanding officer suggested he re-enlist on the ice at Scottrade Center after a Blues team practice, he quickly jumped aboard.

As he put it, “who wouldn’t?”

Moody, who first joined the Navy in an effort to get more money for college, was re-enlisted at center ice Thursday while the majority of the Blues team surrounded him.

“I didn’t know what to do,” Moody said. “Everybody was around me and I didn’t know quite what to think, but it was awesome. It was the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. I didn’t think anything like this could be done.”

Re-enlisting was a no brainer for Moody.

“Once I got in, I realized ‘hey, I’m doing a good thing here,’” he said. “I want to defend this country. This is what I want to do for my career.”

With 9 ½ years of service already under his belt, Moody will return to school in January before departing for Hawaii in June.

“I have a huge admiration for every level of the marines and military,” said Blues defenseman Jay McKee, who was originally asked to be a witness to Moody’s re-enlistment. “I thought it was a real neat opportunity. It was great for everybody to be out there. It was special for him, and special for us to be a part of that.”

Moody thanked the team on the ice for making the day so memorable.

“This is the time to be a Blues fan,” Moody said. “This is it, right here.”
