Blues goaltender Manny Legace knows first hand what it feels like to learn that a loved one has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

It's been more than six years since his mother, Margaret, was diagnosed and beat it.

"She's very inspirational to me," Legace said. "She battled hard, lost her hair. She's battled back and she's still yelling at me after games."

Perhaps that's why the Blues goaltender and his wife, Gi, agreed to serve as honorary chairs for the 2007 Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure. Gi's mother, Sandy, is a 26 year survivor of breast cancer.

"As soon as we got the call (to serve), we couldn't say yes fast enough," Legace said. "We're very proud to do this."

This year's event is set for Sat., June 16 in downtown St. Louis.

The Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure has raised more than $10 million for breast cancer research and local education, screening and treatment programs. It is one of the largest in the Komen Race for the Cure series and one of the largest 5K races in the world.

"We are extremely proud to host the Komen St. Louis Race For The Cure in downtown St. Louis every single year," Mayor Francis Slay said. "St. Louis has one of the largest numbers of participants in any city anywhere in America, and it's growing. When you get a good cause and it's organized well, people come out."
