By Chris Pinkert  - St. Louis Blues
Veteran forward Glen Metropolit joined the Blues on Feb. 25, 2007, just two days before the NHL trade deadline. In exchange for Metropolit, three draft picks and a conditional draft pick, the Blues sent Keith Tkachuk to the Atlanta Thrashers. Metropolit recently took a few minutes to sit down with St. Louis Blues Online and introduce himself to Blues fans.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: Were you surprised to find out that you had been traded at the deadline? Was it something that sort of snuck up on you?

Glen Metropolit: It was kind of shocking. I got pulled in in the morning. I was getting ready to go on the road and play against Boston. They pulled me out. I was really surprised, actually.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: When you get traded for a guy like Keith Tkachuk, who has more than 450 goals in the National Hockey League, do you take that as a compliment?

Metropolit: It’s pretty good. I’m coming to a great team with a good bunch of guys. I knew St. Louis was a great organization with a lot of history. It’s always nice to be able to come to a team with a great bunch of guys. Obviously, I’m not coming to replace Tkachuk. I’m just going to work hard.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: You played professional roller hockey in the mid-90s. What was that experience like?

Metropolit: It was fun. It was a good summer job. I played out in Anaheim and Long Island. Had a great time doing that. It was a good summer job, [a way to] stay in shape and work out.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: If you could pick one, who is the biggest clown in the Atlanta Thrashers’ locker room?

Metropolit: Garnett Exelby. He’s just a funny guy.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: In your short time here, have you figured out which Blues player is the biggest clown in this locker room?

Metropolit: Not yet. I’m starting to get a feel. There’s a bunch of them. I’m just trying to pick them out.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: What’s your favorite thing to do in the offseason?

Metropolit: I enjoy just hanging out with the family. We have a house in Florida and that’s where we live. So I enjoy going out to the beach with the family and hanging out.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: What are some of your favorite hockey memories?

Metropolit: Maybe last year, winning a championship in Switzerland. That’s always special whenever you win a championship. [Also] being able to represent Team Canada at the World Championships. Also, obviously, playing in my first NHL game.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: Before arriving, what did you know about the Blues and St. Louis?

Metropolit: I used to watch them all the time back in the Norris Division when they played against the Toronto Maple Leafs. I knew the history they had. They’re a great organization. I used to watch them when I was a kid because they played against the Leafs a lot.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: What’s your favorite movie?

Metropolit: Braveheart.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: If you weren’t a hockey player, what would you see yourself doing?

Metropolit: Working in the city with the kids, helping [the inner-city kids] out.

STLOUISBLUES.COM: What’s your favorite nickname given to you by teammates?

Metropolit: Probably ‘Metro.’ They were calling me ‘Subway’ in Atlanta, but ‘Metro’ is an easy nickname.
