Lundstrom joins Sweden, Lindbohm to play for Finland at World Juniors

Blues prospects Niklas Lundstrom (Sweden) and Petteri Lindbohm (Finland) will represent their countries when the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships begin on Dec. 26 in Ufa, Russia.

Blues prospects Ty Rattie and Jordan Binnington were selected to represent Canada in the tournament last week.

Lundstrom, 19, has posted a 2-7-0 record with a 3.32 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in nine games for the Swedish Elite League’s (SEL) AIK. Previously, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound goaltender represented Sweden at the 2011 IIHF World U18 Championship, posting a 4-2-0 record along with a 2.14 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.

The Varmdo, Sweden native was originally drafted by the Blues in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Lindbohm, 19, has appeared in 23 games for Jokerit Helsinki of Finalnd’s SM-liiga, recording 4 assists and 55 penalty minutes this season. Previously, the 6-foot-3, 209-pound defenseman represented Finland at the 2011 IIHF World U18 Championship dressing in six games.

The Helsinki, Finland native was originally drafted by the Blues in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Dmitrij Jaskin, a second round draft pick of the Blues (41st overall) in 2011, is a candidate to play for the Czech Republic team, although that roster hasn't been released yet.

The World Junior Championship tournament will take place from Dec. 26 through Jan. 5. Select games will be televised on NHL Network in the United States, and fans will be able to track the progress of Blues prospects at stlouisblues.com.
