UPDATE (Monday at 7:10 p.m.): Blues broadcaster Chris Kerber tweeted that Alex Pietrangelo would not be in the lineup tonight for Game 2. Ian Cole will take his place and make his Stanley Cup Playoff debut.Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will be a gametime decision for Game 2 tonight.
Pietrangelo skated with the team during their morning gameday skate and according to Head Coach Ken Hitchcock, he feels "good so far." But a decision on whether he'll play won't be made until later today.
"Right now he's an injured player, but if he's in the warmup before the game, he's a player (tonight)," Hitchcock said after today's morning skate. "Right now we're deciding. He feels good so far, so we'll see him make it through the rest of the day, but we're not going to put him in the warmup unless we're going to play him. If he's out there for the pregame skate tonight, he's definitely going to be a player."
Pietrangelo was shoved from behind by Kings forward Dwight King late in the second period of Saturday's Game 1. Pietrangelo's head hit the boards and he didn't return to the game. When he didn't practice on Sunday, there was legitimate cause for concern.
If Pietrangelo can't go, Ian Cole will step into his place tonight.
"Sitting out for a month or however long and then having to go in and step into a very intense series like we have going right now, it's tough," Cole said. "But we're practicing hard, they've been skating us hard, trying to get us ready for this possible situation that might happen. I feel like I am ready to step in if that's what needs to be done."
JUST DO IT AGAIN
The Blues lost Game 1 vs. San Jose in the Western Conference Quarterfinals two weeks ago, so being down a game to start a series is nothing new. After losing 3-2 in overtime to the Sharks in Game 1, the Blues rallied for four straight victories to beat San Jose in 5 games.
"It's (just) Game 1," Alex Steen said after Saturday's 3-1 loss to LA. "It would have been nice to get off to a good start, but we didn't. So we move on and focus on the next game just like we did last series."
WHO'S IN / WHO'S OUT
It appears that Matt D'Agostini will be inserted into the lineup tonight, taking the place of forward Chris Stewart.
D'Agostini last played in Game 2 against San Jose, where he had 9 minutes, 26 seconds of ice time on 13 shifts.
"I have to try and match everyone's pace," D'Agostini said. "The playoff pace is a different topic, so I'm going to try to get out there and get involved right away."
"I'm not unhappy with Stewie at all, I think he's been fine for me," Hitchcock said. "We just feel like we would like to play with more speed in our lineup, and No. 2, we want to have a different look on one of the power-play units, and that's where D'Ags excels...He's very effective at where he goes, and he's a guy that's willing to go in there and absorb the shots. We're going to be looking at that."
WORTH NOTING
The Blues' 3-1 loss in Game 1 on Saturday was their first playoff loss to the Kings in franchise history. The Blues are now 8-1 all-time against LA in the postseason.
David Perron recorded an assist Saturday and is now riding a 3-game playoff points streak (1 goal, 3 assists).
Game 2 is available on CNBC and KMOX 1120 AM. The puck drops at 8 p.m. CT. A Blues Live postgame show will follow on FOX Sports Midwest.
