The Rivermen entered the final weekend of the 2011-12 season in control of their playoff destiny, but finished on the outside looking in with a 39-33-2-2 record and 82 points following losses to Charlotte and Chicago. Peoria finished in fourth place in the Midwest Division and 11th in the Western Conference.
April 13 – L 6-1 vs. Charlotte | HIGHLIGHTS
Peoria suffered its biggest defeat this season in a 6-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night at Carver Arena. Adam Cracknell scored the lone Rivermen marker at 7:44 in the second period with assists from Patrick O’Sullivan and Danny Syvret. Jake Allen stopped 27 of 33 shots on goal just hours after returning from an emergency call-up with St. Louis. Bobby Sanguinetti led Charlotte with four points (1g, 3a) while Justin Peters made 31 saves on 32 shots on goal. The loss marked the fourth time the Checkers defeated the Rivermen over the past two months (five contests).
April 15 – L 4-2 at Chicago
Although the Rivermen remained idle on Saturday night, their playoff push was put to an end due to other action around the league. With Jake Allen called up to St. Louis, 2011 3rd-round Jordan Binnington made his professional debut in a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Wolves on Sunday. Binnington stopped 35 of 38 shots on goal while opposing rookie Joe Cannata recorded 38 saves. With Peoria trailing 3-0, Cade Fairchild led a valiant comeback effort with his eighth goal of the campaign at 9:17 in the third period. Adam Cracknell scored just four minutes later to bring the Rivermen within one, but Wolves rookie Nicklas Jensen completed a hat trick in his fifth career pro game with an empty net tally in the final minute to seal the victory. The Rivermen went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Chicago finished with one goal on three opportunities.
