The Rivermen put an end to a five-game losing streak with a 1-0 shutout over San Antonio on Sunday. Peoria is now 37-30-2-2 with 78 points, good for third in the Midwest Division and tied with Lake Erie for eighth place in the Western Conference. The Rivermen are just two points behind fourth-place Abbotsford.
March 30 – SOL 4-3 at Rockford
The Rockford IceHogs came from behind to defeat the Rivermen in a 4-3 shootout decision on Friday night at BMO Harris Bank Center. Jonathan Cheechoo’s second-period tally tied the score at 1-1; however, Rockford’s Rostislav Olesz scored his second goal of the game just 1:56 into the third period. Cade Fairchild and Cheechoo both potted third-period markers, but Brandon Fahey scored a power-play goal to force overtime with less than five seconds remaining in regulation. Peoria sent the lone shot on goal in overtime before heading to a shootout. Derek Nesbitt and Patrick O’Sullivan gave the Rivermen a 2-0 lead through the first two rounds of the shootout. IceHogs forwards Brandon Pirri, Jeremy Morin and Matt Fornataro scored on the final three Rockford attempts to seal the victory. It was just Peoria’s second shootout loss this season.
March 31 – L 4-1 vs. Charlotte | HIGHLIGHTS
The Charlotte Checkers defeated Peoria 4-1 in front of 7,845 fans at Carver Arena on Saturday night. Jonathan Cheechoo tallied the lone Rivermen goal at 9:11 in the second period. Zac Dalpe and Brett Sutter both scored within one minute of each other late in the second period before Chris Durno added an insurance goal at 11:39 in the third period. Sutter finished the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:20 in the third period. Jake Allen stopped 29 of 32 shots on goal while Mike Murphy saved 20 of 21. Peoria finished 0-for-2 on the power play and held Charlotte to 0-for-6.

Hensick won a draw before heading straight to the goal. Hensick’s draw cruised to Derek Nesbitt, who dished to Cade Fairchild at the left point, where a fired a shot of the rear boards. Fairchild’s shot took a helpful rebound to Hensick at the doorstep, who scored the game’s lone goal with just 0.5 seconds remaining in the third period. Alex Stalock recorded a 31-save shutout in his first start with the Rivermen while San Antonio’s Jacob Markstrom stopped 36 of 37 shots on goal. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
