The Rivermen extended their win streak to a season-long five games on Tuesday, but dropped three straight contests to end the week. Peoria’s 36-29-2-1 record has the Rivermen tied for second place in the Midwest Division and in a four-way tie for sixth place in the Western Conference with 75 points
March 20 – W 5-2 at Charlotte
Anthony Peluso matched his season total of two goals within the first 30:15 of the game including the game’s first and the game-winning goal in a 5-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday night at Time Warner Cable Arena. Patrick O’Sullivan, Jonathan Cheechoo and Anthony Nigro also tallied markers for the Rivermen. Jake Allen stopped 42 of 44 shots on goal in 59:42 and earned his 11th win of the season. Phil McRae notched two assists and a plus-3 rating. The Rivermen tied Chicago for first place in the Midwest Division with 75 points in the win. It was the first ever win for the Rivermen at Time Warner Cable Arena.
March 21 – L 6-2 at Charlotte
Peoria’s five-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night in a 6-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena. Shaun Heshka and Chris Bruton each potted third-period goals to spoil Mike Murphy’s shutout attempt. Jake Allen stopped 30 of 34 shots on goal in 40 minutes of action before Alex Stalock stopped 10 of 12 shots on goal in the third period. Peoria went 0-for-2 on the power play while Charlotte finished 2-for-7.
March 24 – L 2-0 vs. Milwaukee | HIGHLIGHTS
The Rivermen suffered their first shutout loss of the season in a 2-0 effort against the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday night at Carver Arena. Michael Latta and Joel Champagne each scored for the Admirals while Jeremy Smith stopped all 33 shots on goal. Jake Allen stopped 19 of 21 shots on goal for Peoria. The Rivermen went 0-for-5 on the power play and Milwaukee finished 1-for-3. Carver Arena housed a season-high 8,901 fans in the loss.
March 25 – L 2-1 vs. Hamilton | HIGHLIGHTS
Even though Peoria sent 43 shots on goal, the Rivermen came up short in a 2-1 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday evening at Carver Arena. Jonathan Cheechoo tallied the lone Rivermen goal at 16:02 in the second period while Jake Allen stopped a total of 32 shots on goal. Peoria went 0-for-4 on the power play and held Hamilton scoreless on three opportunities.
