By Kevin Orris - Peoria Rivermen / The Rivermen Report
Following road wins in Milwaukee and Chicago this weekend, the Rivermen have won four of their last five and sit seventh in the Western Conference at 24-20-2-1. Peoria’s 51 points rank third in the Midwest Division.
Feb. 3 – W 4-2 at Milwaukee
Although Milwaukee scored the game’s first goal, Jonathan Cheechoo’s three-point performance proved to be too much for the Admirals to handle in a 4-2 loss on Friday night at Bradley Center. Cheechoo’s 14th goal of the year tied the game at one halfway through the first period before Milwaukee recaptured the lead 12 seconds into the second frame. Adam Cracknell responded 17 minutes later before Cheechoo and Derek Nesbitt scored third period goals in the win. Ben Bishop stopped 24 of 26 shots on goal while both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Feb. 4 – W 4-1 at Chicago
The Rivermen won their second game in as many days in a 4-1 victory over the Wolves, putting a halt to Chicago’s four game win streak. Brett Sterling (1g, 1a) and T.J. Hensick (2a) both turned in multi-point performances while Cheechoo scored his third goal of the weekend. Nesbitt and Cracknell also tallied markers for the Rivermen as Peoria passed San Antonio for seventh place in the Western Conference. Ben Bishop allowed just one tally on 30 shots on goal in his league-leading 20th win of the campaign.
Rivermen Report
Jan. 30 – Chris Porter (LW) recalled from loan to St. Louis (NHL).
