Entry #4

Chris Mason gets a well deserved night off as he was rock solid in the opener against the Wings.

The turning point came in the 2nd period when Dan Cleary eluded Darryl Sydor on the door step and had the puck on his back hand, looking at a wide open net.

If he scores it is a 4-1 Wings lead. Instead Mason silences the crowd and makes just a great glove save.

The Blues scored 3 goals in the next 5:05 to win the game 4-3.

Darren Pang (left) and Detroit's Ken Daniels will call Saturday's game on Fox Sports Midwest.
Mason and Paul Kariya were the stories for the Blues, while the "stopper" line lead by Jay McClement was again the best line on the ice for the Blues. McClement had one goal and two assists on the night

I like the thought put into the goalie change by the coaches. Ty Conklin was brought in to play in a supporting role and this confirms the belief that this season is about every player. It would be an easy decision to stay with Mason. Conklin automatically feels like a big part of the team by playing in Game 2.

The other asset is that Conklin can really play the puck and that will help get it out of the zone and spend less time there.

The Wings will also switch goalies as Chris Osgood rests and Jimmy Howard gets the start.

I will be doing the game on FS Midwest with the Wings fine play-by-play veteran, Ken Daniels. It will be the shortest tandem ever in NHL history.

I am looking forward to getting back home to St. Louis and start working with my partners, John Kelly and Bernie Federko.

This has been a great benefit to be able to spend this time with my new team, get to know them, and we have really had a great time. Lots of laughs...."fer sure" as Blues' VP of Public Relations Mike Caruso has been quick to pick up here in Sweden.
