Report for the Week Ending Feb. 17
The Rivermen picked up five out of a possible six points in games last week, despite missing their number one goaltender.
Feb. 13 – 5-3 W vs. Rockford
Peoria gave up two early third period goals, but were able to score three unanswered goals in the remainder of the third period to defeat Rockford 5-3 on Wednesday night. Chris Porter scored twice in the third period, while T.J. Hensick had a three-point night (1G, 2A). Derek Nesbitt and Chris Bruton also scored goals for Peoria. The Rivermen outshot the IceHogs 43-25.
Feb. 15 – 4-1 W vs. Abbotsford
Chris Porter, Brett Sonne, Adam Cracknell and Cody Beach all scored goals in Peoria’s 4-1 victory over the Heat Friday night. The Rivermen fired 34 shots on goal, while Abbotsford took 25 shots on Mike McKenna, who made 24 saves. Peoria went 1-for-1 on the man advantage.
Feb. 16 – 3-4 SOL vs. San Antonio
The Rivermen took a season-high 52 shots on goal, but Dov Grumet-Morris made 49 saves, including all four shootout attempts, to hand Peoria a 4-3 shootout loss Saturday in front of 8,034 home fans. Andrew Murray scored his ninth of the season, while Derek Nesbitt scored goals number 17 and 18 in the contest. Cade Fairchild had a pair of assists. Mike McKenna made 25 saves in the loss.
Rivermen Notes
- With his three goals last week, Derek Nesbitt leads the Rivermen with 18 goals scored. He is second in points with 33 (18G, 15A).
- The Rivermen now have a record of 22-21-4-3, which puts them in 12th place in the Western Conference.
- Peoria averages 30.58 shots per game this season. They allow 30.90 shots per contest.
- Chris Porter has enjoyed success since joining the Rivermen. He has 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in just 11 games.
