Report for the Week Ending Jan. 27
The Rivermen picked up three out of a possible four points in the two games they played last week.
Jan. 23 – 2-0 W vs. Chicago
Courtesy of a shutout by Jake Allen, the Rivermen won the third annual Faceoff Field Trip by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday morning against Chicago in front of 7,832 fans. The first goal of the contest didn’t come until the 16:47 mark of the second period. Andrew Murray scored his eighth goal of the year at that point, which turned out to be the game-winning tally. Brett Sonne added a third period goal to increase Peoria’s lead to two goals. Allen stopped all 27 shots he faced, while neither team scored on the man advantage.
Jan. 26 – 3-2 OTL vs. Milwaukee
Despite outshooting Milwaukee 40-25, Peoria lost in overtime 3-2 Saturday night at Carver Arena. Jack MacLellan and Taylor Beck opened up the scoring to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead. Chris Bruton added a goal with less than 5 minutes remaining in the second period to cut Milwaukee’s lead in half. With 1:29 remaining in regulation, Derek Nesbitt tied the game with his 15th goal of the season. Chris Mueller scored the game-winner just one minute into the overtime session. Peoria went 1-for-6 on the power play. Jeremy Smith made 38 saves.
Rivermen Notes
- Mark Cundari will be the Rivermen’s lone representative in the AHL All-Star Game on Monday.
- Derek Nesbitt (15), Adam Cracknell (11), and T.J. Hensick (10) lead Peoria in goals scored.
- When allowing two goals or fewer, the Rivermen are 15-2-1-0 on the season.
- After an 8-5-0-1 December, Peoria ended January with a 5-5-1-0 record. They have an overall record of 19-19-3-2 (43 PTS).
