Report for the Week Ending Jan. 20
After two losses to Rockford and Texas, the Rivermen scored a season-high six goals in Sunday’s win over Houston.
Jan. 18 – 3-1 L at Rockford
Brandon Pirri scored two goals to lead the IceHogs to a 3-1 victory over the Rivermen on Friday night. Stefan Della Rovere scored his first goal of the season, breaking Carter Hutton’s shutout early in the third period. Martin St. Pierre also scored for Rockford. Jake Allen stopped 26 of 29 shots, while Hutton made 31 saves. The Rivermen went 0-for-5 on the power play.
Jan. 19 – 8-4 L vs. Texas
Peoria jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but allowed eight goals to the Texas Stars in an 8-4 loss Saturday night at Carver Arena. Chris Porter scored a goal in his first game with Peoria this season. Evgeny Grachev, Andrew Murray, and Anthony Nigro also added tallies for the Rivermen. Mike McKenna started the game, but was pulled after allowing six goals on 25 shots. The Stars had four players with multi-point games. Texas also went 3-for-3 on the man advantage.
Jan. 20 – 6-2 W vs. Houston
After falling behind 2-1 to the Houston Aeros, the Rivermen scored five unanswered goals in a 6-2 win on Sunday. Adam Cracknell, Chris Porter, Derek Nesbitt, T.J. Hensick, Brett Sonne, and captain Scott Ford all scored goals for Peoria. Jake Allen made 24 saves. The Rivermen went 2-for-4 on the power play.
Rivermen Notes
- When leading after two periods this year, the Rivermen are 9-1-1-1. They are also 12-3-2-2 in one-goal contests.
- Peoria’s two power play goals on Sunday was only the second time they had scored two power play goals in a game all season.
- In shootouts, Peoria has a record of 5-2. Phil McRae leads the team with a shooting percentage of 66.7% in the shootout.
- Peoria now has a record of 18-19-2-2.
