Report for the Week Ending Nov. 25
A dramatic win against the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday helped the Rivermen to their sixth win of the season. Peoria now has a record of 6-9-2-1 after 18 games this season.
Nov. 21 – L 5-4 at Rockford
A back and forth contest that saw five goals in the first period ultimately went Rockford’s (Chicago Blackhawks) way in their 5-4 victory over the Rivermen on Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Peoria fell behind 2-0 at the 12-minute mark of the first after they allowed a shorthanded goal. The last 6:43 of the first frame included goals by Philip McRae, Ian Cole and Jaden Schwartz to give the Rivermen the lead. The IceHogs would go on to score three straight goals, two of which were scored by Jeremy Morin on the power play. Sergey Andronov added a goal with 14.3 seconds left in regulation, but it wasn’t enough for Peoria to tie the contest.
Nov. 23 – SOW 5-4 vs. Milwaukee
Ian Cole tied the game with 40.8 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime and ultimately make it possible for Peoria’s 5-4 shootout win over the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators). Goals by Jaden Schwartz and Sergey Andronov 26 seconds apart allowed the Rivermen to jump out to an early lead. After the Admirals tied the game, Evgeny Grachev scored his third goal of the season to give Peoria the lead back. Mark Van Guilder and Austin Watson scored goals to give Milwaukee a 4-3 lead. Cole’s third goal of the year tied the affair, and shootout goals by T.J. Hensick and Schwartz led the way for a Rivermen win. Mike McKenna stopped 26 of 30, and all four shootout attempts in his first win of the year.
Nov. 24 – L 4-1 vs. Grand Rapids
Peoria took an early lead, courtesy of Chris Bruton’s first goal of the year, but the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wings) scored the game’s last four goals to earn the victory. Peoria went 0-for-4 on the power play while Grand Rapids went 1-for-2. In his second consecutive start, Mike McKenna allowed three goals while making 40 saves. Tom McCollum stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced for Grand Rapids.
